Salvation

Are You Sure You Are Saved?

If you’re reading this, it may be because you’re uncertain about your salvation—or perhaps you already know that you are lost and separated from God, facing eternal judgment. You might be wondering:

How can I be forgiven for the sins I’ve committed against God?

What follows is a clear explanation of sin, salvation, and how you can receive forgiveness. If you have questions, please reach out to Pastor Howard at (860) 593-5735 or email pastortimothyhoward@gmail.com.

Why Do All People Deserve Judgment in Hell?

The Bible tells us plainly that every human being is a sinner. Romans 3:10 says, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Because all have sinned and fall short of God's glory (Romans 3:23), we are each personally accountable for our sin. Romans 6:23 makes this clear: “The wages of sin is death.”

This death is both physical and spiritual. While physical death ends our earthly life, spiritual death means eternal separation from God in Hell (Revelation 21:8).

God is completely just and holy. Unlike earthly judges who may be partial or flawed, God is perfect in justice. That means He must judge sin righteously—He cannot ignore or overlook guilt. If He is truly good, He must hold sinners accountable.

How Can My Sins Be Forgiven?

Many people try to earn God’s favor through good deeds, religious devotion, or moral living. But Scripture tells us that even our best efforts are like filthy rags before a holy God (Isaiah 64:6).

Forgiveness doesn’t come by our works—it comes through Jesus Christ, who died in our place (Isaiah 53:10). The Bible teaches that we must recognize our guilt and cry out to God for mercy (Romans 10:13).

Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). He lived a sinless life, fulfilled God’s law, and died a criminal’s death on a Roman cross—though He was innocent. After His death, He was buried and rose again three days later, appearing to many (Matthew 28:6; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

If God is opening your eyes to your need for salvation, don’t ignore that. Turn to Him now—cry out to Him for forgiveness and trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you (Romans 10:9-10, 13).

What Is Repentance?

Repentance is essential for salvation. Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.”

To repent means to admit that you are a sinner who deserves God’s judgment. It is turning away from your sin and turning to Jesus Christ in faith—trusting in His death, resurrection, and power to forgive and cleanse you (John 14:6). True repentance changes your heart, your direction, and your loyalty.

Is Jesus Christ the Only Way?

Yes. Jesus is the only way to God. He said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus is the only one who has died for the sins of the world (John 3:16; 1 John 2:1-2). Unlike every other religious leader—who were sinners themselves—Jesus was without sin. He alone paid the debt of sin with His own blood.

No amount of sincerity in any other religion can bring salvation. Acts 4:12 states it plainly: “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

If you want to be rescued from sin and spared from God’s wrath, you must come to Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive and save you.

How Do I Call on the Lord for Salvation?

To be saved, you must believe that Jesus died for your sins, rose from the dead, and is ready to forgive. Speak to Him in prayer—confess that you are a sinner and ask Him to save you.

There is no special script or formula. God listens to the sincere cry of a repentant heart. Just talk to Him honestly and humbly.

Jesus promises in John 6:37, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” Romans 10:13 echoes this: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

No matter your past—if you will turn from your sin and place your faith in Jesus Christ—you will be saved.

What Comes After Salvation?

1. Baptism:
Baptism is an outward sign of the inner change that has taken place. It symbolizes your old self being buried and your new life in Christ being raised up (Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17). It doesn’t save you—it shows you belong to Christ.

2. Join a Local Church:
God designed the Christian life to be lived in community, not isolation. The local church is the place for growth, encouragement, worship, and service (Acts 2; Hebrews 10:25). Become part of a church family where you can be taught, supported, and used for God’s glory.

3. Share the Gospel:
Telling others about Jesus is not just for preachers—it’s for every believer. You can start right away. In John 4, a woman who had just met Jesus immediately began telling others. Start by sharing your own story of how Christ saved you.

Here are some helpful Scriptures for sharing the gospel:

  • Romans 3:10 – None are righteous.

  • Romans 3:23 – All have sinned.

  • Romans 6:23 – The consequence of sin is death.

  • Romans 5:8 – Christ died for sinners.

  • Luke 19:10 – Christ came to save the lost.

  • Acts 3:19 – Repentance brings forgiveness.

  • Romans 10:9-10 – Believe and confess Christ.

  • Romans 10:13 – Call on the Lord and be saved.

  • John 14:6 – Jesus is the only way to the Father.
